Vegan Hotel ‘Hotel Swiss’ Kreuzlingen/Switzerland

For my birthday last year Christian gave me a weekend in Switzerland at the gorgeous and stunning Hotel Swiss. Since I’m writing this nearly a year later, I don’t remember everything, but I remember for sure how grand the room and bathroom was and how amazing and delicious the huge vegan breakfast was.

Hotel Swiss is seated right next to the beautiful Lake Constance, which borders upon Germany, Austria and Switzerland. That makes it the perfect starting point for trips into all of the three countries, to the massive Alps and lovely cities like Constance.

Christian was born not far from Lake Constance, so after we visited his family in Ravensburg, we took the ferry to the other side of the lake and drove all the way to Zurich. I’ve never been there before and really wanted to go there. Sadly it’s way to expensive for our budget, so we were searching for activities that wouldn’t cost us anything. We parked the car outside of Zurich, took the train into the city and had a very expensive cappuccino. Then we walked around the city, had our own lunch at the lake and bought some swiss chocolate. Then we took another train to the botanic garden, which is also for free and strolled around beautiful flowers, old trees and a little pond. Not a bad way to spend a day in Zurich!

We drove back to the hotel, checked in and explored our lovely room. The receptionist gave us the address of an affordable italian restaurant, which was pretty good. The rest of the evening we spent in our hotel room playing board games we bought in Ravensburg (the city of board games). Since the hotel is very expensive we felt like we should enjoy it as much as possible.

Well, I already mentioned how amazing the breakfast was! There were so many options and pretty much everything I could have ever wished for. And all of it fresh and delicious. The coffee is great, too. We ate as much as possible and were very sad to leave the hotel. I would always recommend it, especially if you want it to be a present to your vegan better half. With the rooms being 190 CHF during the season (cheaper off-season) it’s definitely not affordable for everyone.

Since the Alps are just a stone’s throw away, we decided to go hiking before we would leave for home. We decided on an easy but beautiful and rewarding path at the base of a big mountain. It was gorgeous! Switzerland is definitely one of the most beautiful places to go hiking, we went over fields, through forests and even passed a waterfall. But the best thing: right before we started our hike I met a lovely kitten, which started to follow us on our 10 km hike. She was so sweet and somehow the cows loved her. Of course we had to carry her home, 10 km was just too far for the little one. We returned her home safely! What a trip!

The hotel only serves breakfast, but every Friday they serve a vegan gourmet menu and every first Sunday of the month they host a brunch.
