Delidosa & Picnic

Two restaurants in one! Have your lunch or dinner right next to Munich’s beloved art museums and in one of the finest areas of the city.

The Delidosa serves you a delicious, healthy and creative lunch, their products are organic and all the dishes are homemade and made without any flavour enhancers. The restaurant itself looks rather hip and cool, minimalistic with a rustic charm. Pretty much like their food I dare say. You can find lots of veggies and salads on their menu, which makes for a variety of vegan options that are all clearly marked as just that.

I had the Dosa, a gluten-free pancake filled with potatoes, and a salad with a papadam. Oh, and a refreshing Mango Lassi. The Dosa was absolutely delicious. Filling, yet light. One will totally keep you satisfied until dinner. I asked one of the staff members how to prepare my own Dosa and he was kind enough to explain it to me. It sounded way to complicated, though. But that’s alright, the Delidosa awaits!

It’s one of those perfect little lunch places where you could totally go every day and eat your way through the whole menu. But somehow those keep popping up all over town. What a lovely development!

Once the Delidosa is closed, Picnic opens it’s doors for dinner guests. The menu is a bit fancier, but very similar to the lunch menu, with the same Indian theme. I had another dinner date with my soon to be roommate (woohoo) Chris one fine summer evening, and we both enjoyed it very much. The food is of course delicious as well and the menu offers such a lovely variety of vibrant dishes.

I ordered the Surprise, which is basically an assembled plate filled with a little bit of everything. Chris had the Momos, little Tibetan dumplings filled with shiitake mushrooms and a salad on the side. We ended up sharing everything, including the veggie balls as a starter, and had a lovely ice cold beer with it – indian/german fusion at its best. The prices are rather moderate, only the wine was a bit out of our student budget.

The staff is very friendly, too. There was a little misunderstanding with my friends order, and they corrected it with no hesitation and even compensated him in the end. Mistakes can happen, it’s all about how they are handled, and there’s no doubt here. The Picnic could very well become one of my favourite new restaurants to take vegetarian and omnivore friends (and vegan ones of course).
